OVERVIEW
The Lilac City Piano Festival was created to showcase and celebrate the talent and dedication of young pianists from around the region. Open to amateurs from grades one through the collegiate level, performers will receive constructive feedback from nationally recognized piano professionals. The festival is open to everyone regardless of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Participants will receive educational evaluations by performing for adjudicators and a chance to be awarded certificates and medals during this event.
PARTICIPATION RULES
- All music performed must be published works.
- All piano solos in competitive classes must be played from memory.
- Music may be used in the Open (non-competitive) Category as well as Ensemble and Chamber Music Divisions.
- All piano pieces must be original works. No arrangements are allowed except in Ensemble Divisions. Transcriptions by major composers may be used. No cuts or excerpts allowed.
- An original score must be provided to the adjudicator. No photocopies are allowed unless proof of origin is supplied.
- Measure numbers at each brace must be clearly identified.
- Music to be performed should fall into the category of “art music.” No popular, jazz or new age music is allowed.

The oral adjudication typically takes place after all performances are heard.
